Getting Involved

At St Martin’s there are always opportunities to help and to get involved, people find that by getting involved they can learn new skills, meet new people and they also find it extremely rewarding. Below are just a few examples of areas where volunteers are often needed and if you feel any of these interests you and you are able to help then please let our vicar know, or contact vicar@stmartinsmaidstone.org.uk.

This list is by no means exhaustive and should you feel that you have a particular gift; maybe you have a trade or a hobby that you feel you could put to good use then please feel free to discuss this too, in any event you will be warmly welcomed.

Tea & Coffee
After the 10am service teas and coffees are served to the congregation at the back of the church enabling us to get together and chat in fellowship with one another, and there is a rota of willing volunteers who help with this.

Flowers
There is something welcoming about a church filled with flowers, and arranging flowers can be both rewarding and therapeutic. Do you have a creative flair or a willingness to learn something new?

Serving
The servers perform various tasks in assisting the priest during the course of the service and this is a practical and very rewarding way of helping and taking part in the service itself.

Cleaning
It’s one of those never ending tasks always needing to be done! Do you sometimes find you have a bit of time on your hands? If so maybe you could help with this very important job.

Fabric Committee
This group undertakes various small maintenance and DIY works in and around the church buildings and grounds. Do you have a practical nature or maybe even a trade skill which you would like to put to good use?

Sunday school & Crèche
These are organised by our children’s minister but helpers are always welcome. Do you enjoy working with children and are you willing and able to help with activities? Then maybe this one’s for you!

Prayers & Readings
Would you like to play a practical part in the service itself? If so you might like to read a passage from the bible or to lead the congregation in prayer.

Music Group
St Martins have a music group which lead the singing of a mixture of traditional hymns and modern worship songs during the 10am Sunday Service. Do you have a singing voice, do you enjoy worship through music? Maybe you can play a musical instrument? If so hopefully you will consider joining them.

Café Church
This is our informal monthly service aimed at encouraging new members and introducing worship and prayer in a relaxed atmosphere. Could you help with organising activities, providing refreshments or maybe you have an idea for a theme?

Fundraising
People often mistakenly think that Anglican Churches receive their money directly from the Church of England. This is not the case, and fund-raising is extremely important in order to raise money to cover the churches running costs and keep the work of the church going. Are you able to spare some time to help at a fundraising event? Perhaps you would enjoy organising an event or maybe you have a fantastic idea for a way in which we could raise some money? If so please do get involved.
