Worship

Why Worship?

It’s very hard to define what is meant by worship. It doesn’t just happen in the Christian religion, and it can take many forms. In a collection of papers published in 1946 Evelyn Underhill describes it as ‘The adoring acknowledgment of all that lies beyond us’. Many Christians believe that the worship of God is at the very core of what it means to be human. The desire for God is written in the human heart, because humans are created by God; and God never ceases to draw us closer to him.

So what about worship in the Church of England? The opening paragraph of the worship page of The Church of England’s website describes worship as, ‘putting faith into practice through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament.’
